Soymilk

Soymilk is one of the first and most popular plant milks, for good reason. Soymilk boasts a perfect balance of carbohydrates, proteins, and fat, and a rich, rounded flavor. Soymilk has the highest protein among unfortified plant milks, with around 8 grams of complete protein per cup, as opposed to 1 gram per cup for almond milk. The protein in soymilk is easily digestible, and consists of all 20 amino acids.

Soy protein is also heat-stable, which is good because raw soybeans contain trypsin inhibitors that must be deactivated with “wet” heat. Our machines cook soymilk for over 20 minutes at over 200 °F 🔥 (93°C), maximizing the nutrition and digestibility of your soymilk.

Enjoy soymilk in drinks, smoothies, baking, just for plain drinking. Or, make like soymilk’s biggest fans and enjoy it with a Chinese cruller for dipping.

Ingredients

  • Dry, raw soybeans
    • 1/2 to 1 US Customary cup for SoyaJoy
    • 1/3 to 2/3 US Customary cup for SoyaPower
    • We recommend starting with the lower amount of soybeans, as most users find that makes good drinking soymilk. You may like to later experiment with increasing the amount of soybeans, particularly for uses like making soy yogurt.
  • Water

*Note that the measuring cup provided with the machines and referred to as the “Sanlinx cup” in the user manual equals 1/2 US Customary cup

Tip: For thicker soymilk, you can also add a few tablespoons of uncooked white rice (may pre-soak along with soybeans), or rolled/instant oats (dry), which will make the milk creamier without changing the flavor.

Instructions

  1. Soak the soybeans in water for about 8 hours or overnight. This step is optional, but soaked beans make for better soymilk.
  2. Pour the beans into the pitcher of the machine
  3. Fill pitcher with water up to between the lines. If you have it on hand, hot or boiling water reduces the cooking time
  4. Press “Soaked Beans” if using soaked beans, or “Dry Beans” if using dry beans. The machine will immediately start
  5. Take a 30 minute power nap 😜
  6. When the machine beeps, unplug it, and remove the head
  7. To strain the milk with the provided sieve, place the sieve on top of a heat-safe pitcher, and slowly pour the milk through. Press remaining liquid from the pulp with the back of a spoon as you go. You may also use a nut milk bag to strain if you prefer.
  8. Add any flavorings or sweeteners to taste, such as honey, vanilla, and a pinch of salt.
